The Flute Studio of
Sandy Kipp Iles
Sandy Kipp Iles taught private flute lessons since 1979 and found teaching to be one of the most satisfying aspects of being a professional musician.
Want to Play the Flute?
Here’s why you should take lessons with a private teacher.
To some music is an art or expression of love and life, and to some it’s simply a hobby and fun. Playing an instrument gives many students a sense of self, and a source of confidence, of challenge, and an introduction to self-discipline. Research has shown studying an instrument helps students learn other subjects more thoroughly and can help an adult keep their mind sharp by exercising their brain.
A consistent practice plan encourages students to set goals, strive for excellence, and can boost one’s self-esteem. Students of all ages and abilities learn a greater appreciation for the arts, and the one-on-one nature of private lessons can have an immense influence on a student’s growth and maturity.
Fundamentals ~ Confidence ~ Performance ~ Challenge ~ Encouragement
Music is Fun!
That’s why we play instruments.
The more you improve as a musician, the more fun you will have. Sandy would always recommend you study with a teacher that stresses fundamentals and practice techniques early so you will improve quickly. This allows you to play more styles of music. A private teacher will help you find your artistic voice to express your musicality. Interpretation and phrasing are the musical goals Sandy thought everyone should strive for.
Most importantly, don’t believe in a “one-size-fits-all” approach to teaching. Find a teacher who will customize lessons to help you achieve your musical goals.
Who was Sandy Kipp Iles?
Sandy taught hundreds of students in the past four decades and loved every second of it. She loved watching the smile on a student’s face when they bowed at the end of a performance, won a challenge at school, completed a higher level of CMMP, were accepted to a university, started a professional career, or simply learned a new piece of music that they enjoyed!

“Sandy Iles is the most resilient, genuinely inspiring, unequivocally intelligent, kind human being and educator I have ever had the pleasure to work with. I have had concrete aspirations of becoming a professional musician since I was a child, yet no real sense of reality about the rigorous progress it would take to accomplish this. Professor Iles bridged the gap between dreams and reality for me through her knowledgeable instruction and ongoing support. Not only did she provide me with all of the tools needed to succeed, she taught me with such patience and positivity.”
